“I know,” said Tom. “But she’ll miss all her
friends.”
“They like Park House,” added Poppy. “If
only there was a way to get loads of money
to keep it open.”
Tom’s Mum sighed.
“Yes,” she said. “It is a pity. I remember a
story Gran used to tell me about Park
House when I was a little girl.”
The Chicken Street Gang loved stories.
“What kind of story?” they asked.
“Well,” said Mum, pouring milk into a
saucepan to heat. “It went like this. Edmund
Park, who founded Park House, was a very
rich man. Actually that bit isn’t a story, it’s
true. The story goes that before he died he
