Jake Page, my best friend, sat opposite.
He looked across the table at me. Jake was
ok at spelling. He always wrote in big letters
in spelling tests and I had learnt to read
upside down. It was a bit tricky this time
though, with all those ‘S’s. The next nine
words weren’t much easier either.
At last the torture was over.
“You can leave those tests on your
tables,” Miss Morris said above the din of
scraping chairs.
Jake and I rushed to be first out. Jake
was coming back to my house that day. But
Miss Morris was still talking.
“Hold on, Harry Lark!” she called over to
me. “I want a quick word with you!”
