            would be too distracted to notice us slipping


            back into the house and going up to my

            room.


               She was. Five minutes later we were in

            front of my computer. It was pretty old, but it


            worked. Mum and Dad were planning to

            buy me a better one for my next birthday,


            but that wasn’t for another week. It wouldn’t

            be new, of course, just second-hand.


               I switched it on and took the cd out of the

            box again. It might not work, of course.

               I put the cd in and waited. There was the


            usual whirring sound, a clunk then another

            whirring sound. Our eyes were glued to the
