            giant crack up one wall. One day the whole


            of one side of the house had fallen down.

               “That’s the trouble with old houses,” Gran


            sighed. “You never know if any dangerous

            cracks are going to develop.”


               The tour complete, they made their way

            back to the front hallway. Tom thought the


            plan had gone pretty well. Surely Mr

            Snarling wouldn’t want to buy a huge house


            that had woodworm, pungent smells,

            ghosts, rats, cockroaches, sinking lawns

            and big cracks up the walls.


               Mr Snarling was just thinking this himself

            when something unfortunate happened.
