Mr Snarling had never thought about lifts

breaking down before. But it made sense.

Park House was very old and so the lifts

might be worn out. Mr Snarling didn’t like

old people. He didn’t like the sound of being

stuck in a lift for hours with an old woman

and her young assistants and their tales of

gloom about Park House. He was

beginning to wonder what else might be

wrong with the building he was planning to

buy. Once they’d puffed their way very

slowly upstairs, Gran led the way to the

rooms that they had all ready for their

            visitor. She looked at Tom.

“Perhaps you’d like to take a look on your

            own, Mr Snarling?” she said.
