The three of them stared through the trees. That



               seemed to be all there was - a thin line of trees. Not even


               woods anymore.



                       “Well, I...!” she gasped. “Where has it gone?”



                       Jasmine gasped too.


                       “It’s gone! How can it have gone? It was just there!”



                       The mechanic frowned.


                        “The only cottage I remember was a century’s old



               woodcutter’s cottage. Everything was demolished to make


               way for the by-pass. The woods and cottage would have



               been about where we’re standing now.”



                       Mum shivered. Jasmine looked at her in alarm. This


               wasn’t right. It was weird. The words from that radio



               programme were going round and round in Jasmine’s



               head – especially the bit about the spirits of the dead


               people.



                       They were both glad that the mechanic had the car all


               fixed. After thanking him they both jumped back in. The



               mechanic drove off first. Mum started the engine. As they
