Chapter One

Al’s Story

Al is running. His trainers are splatting

down on the wet pavements and rain

is lashing into his face. His heart is

thumping with excitement and terror.

He’s done it! He’s actually done it!

The gang will be well impressed.

As he skids around a corner in the

street he nearly collides with an

elderly lady with one of those weird

shopping trolley things on wheels. He

manages to avoid the woman, but

gets a foot caught in one of the

wheels. It’s enough to make him

stumble and cry out, but he doesn’t

fall over – or stop running. It doesn’t
