Al is grateful. He needs to be in the
gang. He needs to belong. He’ll do
anything. Anything…
“What?” he asks. “What do you want
me to do?”
The leader is considering. He looks at
one of his friends: a small boy with
glasses.
“Specks!” the boss yells.
Specks jumps.
“You can stay with our baby Al on his
next mission. Make sure he does it
right. Right, baby Al? Last chance!”
“No problem,” Al stutters. He’s
grateful for the second chance, but his
heart is pounding so hard he might as
well be still running.
