people’s home now, so I can’t go and
stay with her either.
The only good thing is that it’s school
holidays. At least I won’t have to
explain why I’m not at home anymore
to my friends. Everyone’s away at the
moment, but even if they were around
they wouldn’t understand. If Mum had
broken her leg or was having a heart
transplant they’d all be interested and
kind and want to know. But that’s not
it. My mum has a mental illness. It’s
called depression and some people
need to be in hospital for a bit if they
get that bad enough. People can look
at me funny if I try to explain about
that. Maybe they think she’s putting it
on. Or maybe they think Mum having
