“Can’t you just do that then?” said Tom.
“Then Mr and Mrs Young won’t have to
sell.”
There was silence.
“Ah,” said Gran, sitting down. “That’s the
trouble. Mr Snarling is coming back
tomorrow for another look. Then Mr and
Mrs Young will agree to the sale. There is
just no time for finding the money.”
Everyone sat sadly and silently for a few
moments.
“Maybe Mr Snarling will change his mind!”
Tom said hopefully.
Gran shook her head.
