             she’d broken the garage window and


             told Josie and Tom he, Gary, had

             done it. That’s what Lauren was like:

             always making up stories that got


             other people into trouble. Of course,

             Gary had wanted to say it hadn’t been


             him, but then Lauren had glared at

             him. Then she’d started crying and


             Josie had immediately been taken in

             by the poor girl’s dilemma of trying to


             cope with the current upheaval in her

             family and settling into foster care


             again. It wasn’t fair. Gary had

             upheavals and dilemmas to cope with

             too. And now he had to take the


             blame for something he hadn’t done.

             His pocket money stopped for weeks
