Gary grinned understanding at his

friend. He liked the way Josh

defended him. He was a great friend.

More than that. Josh was like a

brother to him, always looking out for

him. Yes, if he’d had a brother then

he’d have been just like Josh.

Sometimes Gary pretended that he

and Josh really were brothers. Not

just friends. He never told Josh this, of

course. Josh would think he was nuts.

Besides, Josh already had a brother –

and a sister. And a mum who lived

with them with his dad. All those

people in one house probably made

Josh wish he had a bit more space
