Gary’s dad had an illness. He was

okay most of the time, but when he

wasn’t okay he was too depressed to

work and too tired to look out for

Gary. And if the depression and

tiredness went on for too long he’d

end up in hospital and because Gary

was twelve that meant he had to go

and stay with Josie and Tom. His Dad

said so – so that was that.

Gary didn’t mind staying with

Josie and Tom. It had happened

loads of time now. Josie and Tom

weren’t just his aunt and uncle. They

were also foster parents and they

were good with kids and problems

and stuff. Gary was fine about being

there. He was especially fine about
