the footpath, shattered.

For a moment neither of them

spoke. Josh leaned back at the wall

and breathed heavily.

Gary was wheezing and gasping

for breath by now. He couldn’t handle

this. He tried breathing slowly and

deeply until the tightness in his chest

went. If they’d run any further, he

thought, his lungs would probably

have burst. He looked across at Josh.

“Are we okay?” he gasped.

“We’re okay.”

“Sure?”

“I think so. They haven’t come

after us anyway.”
