could feel it where the soles of his
trainers were wearing thin. Then they
were into the trees and getting further
away. Spikey bushes and lower
branches struck at their bare shins as
they raced into the woods. Then they
were out the other side of the woods
into River Street. Further. It wasn’t
safe yet. Keep going. Keep going.
There was too much breath in his
lungs - Gary felt like he was going to
burst. Then there wasn’t enough air.
He needed to stop. But Josh’s arm
was on his again - yanking him on.
Not safe yet. A bit further. They fell
into an alley way, almost crashing into
