Gary wasn’t sure what Al was

about to go for. He suspected it was

something to do with heading towards

the edge of the river bank and then

screeching to a stop just before the

car hit the edge. Well, he wasn’t going

to look. He squeezed-shut his eyes.

They were going to end up in the

river. He knew it.

Al’s sight was fixed on the

water’s edge in front of them. Gary

held his breath. Crunch! Al had

yanked up the handbrake. The car

was stopping - skid-stopping. They all

lurched forward as the front wheels

slipped downwards towards the water.

The car swivelled sideways. The

engine stalled.
