He didn’t know the truth of

course. The truth was that the gang

had told Al he had to get Gary and

Josh into the car and then nick it. It

was all part of the deal. Part of the

test. Only Josh had had an inkling.

He’d tried to open the door and pull

Gary out. Then when Al had started

the engine he had jumped in the back

of the car instead. Gary knew he

didn’t want to be there anymore than

he did.

Al was clenching his teeth and a

strange sound was coming out

between them. He was barely able to

see over the top of the steering wheel

and was pulling on to it with both

hands to keep himself close enough.
