Dad and Josh’s mum and dad used

come here and he’d run splashing

through the waters and clamber over

the climbing frames and slides with

Josh and Josh’s brother and sister.

He had liked those days. Even back

then it was obvious that he and Josh

were meant to be friends. It was

destiny. And everything back then had

felt sort of happy and normal. That

had been before Dad had lost his job

and got depressed the first time.

Gary sighed. Those days were

a long time ago now. Anyway, he

reasoned, he and Josh had long

outgrown the kids’ playground. These

days they had more interesting stuff to

do.
