             Josh lifted it carefully and held it out


             over the water. Once it felt the water it

             sprang into life, flapped its wing

             feathers and settled into a gentle


             swim.

                     “Maybe it’s not so bad,” he said.


                     Gary, who couldn’t see that there

             was anything wrong with the ducks


             anyway, had his mind on something

             else now. He’d forgotten his


             swimming stuff. What a pain.

             Swimming was out then. They’d have


             to find something else to do.

                     Josh had finished being vet of

             the day.


                     “Race you back to the den!” he

             brightened. And then got there first
