Now, hot from their cycling, they

parked their bikes up against the side

of a tree and flopped down on the dry

earth in front of the den. From this

shaded place away from the crowds

by the playground they were nearer

the large lake which spread across

the other side of the park

Gary knew Josh loved the

lake as much for the wildlife as for

their den. It was funny how he noticed

things about the birds. Gary never

really noticed anything like that much.

Right now Josh had propped himself

up on his elbows and was squinting

through the bushes towards the lake.

A family of ducks were huddled

together, bobbing and floating silently
