sauce was in one place at the top, the
sausages were opposite and the chips were at
the bottom. Some tomatoes and lettuce sat in
the middle.
“What are you doing?” Abby asked.
Jay didn’t answer. Jay didn’t like different
foods touching. He liked them separate. It was
just better like that. Dad called it his Food
Thing.
Jay just shrugged and Abby went on eating.
Finally, food in place, Jay started eating too.
“If you’re going to start riding a bicycle we’ll
have to think about getting you one,” Dad was
saying. “Maybe we could manage to get a
second hand one.”
Jay, though surprised and pleased about his
new bike riding skills, hadn’t thought about
actually owning one.
