“You mean I could have one of my own,” he
grinned. “Wow! That would be great!”
“You’ll have to have a bike if you’re going to
Hill Road. Half the kids in my class have got
them,” said Abby. “You can cycle to school.”
Jay’s dad was picking up some work folders
and a mug of coffee and headed for the door.
“Okay, guys. I’ve got some work to do. You
two can look after yourselves now can’t you?”
he said. “Abby, tell Jay about that school of
yours. I’ll be in the front room if you need me,
Jay.”
Jay spotted the wink Dad gave them both as
he disappeared through the doorway. He
didn’t know why people winked at each other.
What did it have to do with Abby telling him
about his new school? Jay didn’t even want to
hear about his new school. He already knew
