The blackness began to grow lighter - at

            first bright yellow, like the sun with a blue sky

            all around it. Then there were greens and

            browns. The whirring noise stopped. Thump!

            At last, then, he was on the floor. Shutting his

            eyes he kept still. The numbness had gone

            and he knew he was lying on his back on

            something hard. He turned his hands over to

            feel the carpet. It felt strange - sort of tickly

            and damp - and not like the carpet at all. And

            what was that noise and that cool, fresh-air

            smell?

               Jay opened his eyes and sat bolt upright at

            the same time.

               “Huh?” This time he heard himself. Too

            terrified to move, his heart beat out of control.

            Jay stared in utter disbelief at
