cracking sound. There was another sound too

- a low murmuring. It got louder. Jay didn’t

really feel frightened. That crazy thought that

had been forming in his head was telling him

he needn’t be frightened. It wasn’t a wild

animal or anything else that might be

dangerous. If he was right he would only have

to wait a few more seconds.

As whatever it was emerged from the

bushes on to the path Jay gasped in

astonishment. His jaw dropped open as a tall

young girl with long dark hair, grubby t-shirt

and trousers stepped out in front of him. Then

there were more - another girl, a man, a child

and a lad. They were all dressed for a hike

through the jungle and they were all carrying

bags, rucksacks and rolled up bundles of

goodness knows what. And they all stopped
