Jake was looking at the jar, too.

               “See? Get her to the audition safely and


            you’ll have a present, too.”

               He was right. There were forty pounds at


            least in the jar. It was obviously going to be

            a pretty special present.


               “Let’s go!” I shouted. “Run!”

               Jake and I ran hard. Up the street, round


            the corner and down the alley way that was

            a short cut to town. Mum and Clara had a


            good start on us. They were nowhere to be

            seen. Maybe they’d caught the bus. Out

            into North Road we hurtled on towards the


            High Street and the theatre. We had to

            reach that corner before Clara. Four


            minutes to go. Three minutes. Nearly there.
