lorry was only feet away from us now. I
knew this was the second Clara was
destined to step out. But she didn’t – she
was too busy trying to get her bag back.
Then suddenly it was all over. The lorry had
gone. Jake had caught up with us. Mum
was telling me off and Clara was crossing
the empty road.
“You did it!” Jake laughed. “It worked! You
saved your sister!”
Jake was right. I could hardly believe it.
For the first time we hadn’t made things
worse. For the first time we’d won.
The only bad thing was that Mum and
Clara hadn’t even noticed. And the only
