               Clara had started laughing before I even

            finished the sentence.


               “It’s for keeping things in,” she said. “You

            know, worms, slugs, bugs or whatever else


            little brothers like collecting!”

               Jake’s mouth had dropped open.


               “But what about the...?” he began. I

            kicked his leg under the table. The jar still

            had the sticky white label on the side with


            the scrawled writing:
