Chapter Ten
My birthday arrived at last. I was woken
extra early by Mum and Dad crashing
through the door singing ‘Happy Birthday’
and carrying a large wrapped object. It was
my new second-hand computer. Dad got it
plugged in straight away and took the old
one downstairs. He was going to drop it off
at the recycling centre on his way to work.
Next, I was dying to know what Clara had
bought me with all that money. She might
not know that I’d saved her from a nasty
accident, but she’d got the part she wanted
in the musical. This had put her in an
amazingly good and generous mood. Jake
arrived just in time to see me opening the
