It wasn’t all bad though. I got fifteen cards
and five presents from the other kids in my
class. The whole morning felt a bit different
anyway – weird kind of different. It was like
everyone was waiting for something. What
with the excitement of the last week and my
birthday I’d almost forgotten what it was.
Then last lesson before lunch Miss Morris
tapped the front table with her pen and said
she had an announcement to make. The
class went quiet. Miss Morris was holding
an envelope.
“I have here the names of the ten winners
of the ‘What I am going to be when I grow
up’ competition,” she said.
