Okay? Suddenly, Jay didn’t feel okay. He

might have been acting bravely, but he felt

small and scared. Who in their right mind

would go after the Groundlings? What they

were about to do was very dangerous.

“Come on,” Ella was talking again. She led

the way out of the bushes and across the

clearing to the spring. The mound of rocks

from which the Goundlings had emerged was

arranged in a neat pile again. That meant they

had gone back down to their underground

world.

The three of them began lifting the grey

stones and moving them one at a time. Soon

they could see the entrance to the deep

tunnel. They waited and listened again. For a

second they heard a faint cry coming from the

tunnels.
