tunnel went left, one went right. Jay caught

sight of something black and shiny growing

out of one of the tunnel walls. It was some

kind of plant - a cross between rhubarb and

spinach. Disgusting. To the Groundlings

though it was a source of food and some of

the leaves had been torn off and dropped on

the floor of the tunnel that went to the right.

“They went that way,” Jay suggested. “Look

at the leaves.”

Ella shone her torch at the dropped black

stuff.

“You’re right,” she said. “I hope they’re not

giving that to poor Flick to eat.”

The thought of rhubarb and spinach

flavoured food made Jay feel sick. There was

something else the Groundlings needed the
