and gently patted it on Binny’s outstretched
arm. Amazingly it worked straight away.
“The pain has gone already!” Binny
breathed a sigh of relief. He reached for a
handful of the medicine himself and covered
the wound with it. Then the three of them
leaned back against the wall. Jay was grateful
the plant had been there just when they
needed it.
“Let’s take some of the leaves with us,” he
suggested. “In case there are more snakes.”
“Yes,” Ella agreed.
Jay was about to reach out to pull up a
handful of the black leaves when Ella gasped.
She grabbed his arm and switched off her
torch.
“Keep still!” she whispered. “Both of you
keep still! Listen!”
