loosened the snake’s grip on Binny’s arm.

While it was still dazed, he grabbed its long

slimy body and hurled it to the ground. As it

fell it turned its head back and spat out its

tongue. Binny yelped in pain. The three of

them grabbed each other and ran at top speed

down the tunnel. In the panic Jay found

himself in the lead. He was running and

feeling along the wall in the darkness at the

same time. Suddenly the tunnel wall went

round a corner. He stumbled a moment and

then realised there were steps going upwards.

It seemed a good place to get away from

snakes and the others followed him up on to a

ledge above the tunnel. Once there they

flopped down breathing heavily.

“Are you okay, Binny?” Ella risked flicking

the torch on again.
