“The path goes through the long grasses

            next,” she reminded them. “No one is to step

            off the path. The Guide’s instructions are very

            clear. I think we’ve all learnt that it’s easiest if

            we just follow the instructions in the first

            place. The last twenty four hours have been a

            nightmare for all of us. We were lucky, but we

            could easily have lost Flick and Lewis

            forever.”

               Ella was sounding far more like the leader

            Jay had always imagined she was. That

            terrible experience of having to rescue Flick

            had somehow made her stronger. The

            Pioneers were listening to her properly too. No

            one was arguing or thinking they should do

            something different. Jay was glad. After all,

            she had been chosen by The Guide to lead

            and she was the best at it.
