Lewis hauled Zak to his feet while Ella,

Rosie and Jay pulled Binny to one side.

“That’s it!” Ella said firmly. “Okay, Zak. You

heard what Binny said. Choose for yourself!”

Zak threw back his head and laughed. He

put his hand up to his mouth and felt a trickle

of blood. Then he spat at the ground between

Binny and himself.

“Great!” he said. “Anyone coming with

me?”

Everyone stared in silence. Ella stood,

hands on hips, waiting. No one moved. Zak

laughed again.

“You’re all losers!” he said. “If you all want

to follow Ella and her Guide go ahead. I’ll see

you there. That’s if you ever do get there!”

And with that he turned and marched off

towards the left path. The Pioneers watched
