Jay splashed into the cool water. It was

fantastic! He could feel all the hot stickiness

washing away. He ducked his head under the

surface. It felt great.

For the next hour the Pioneers forgot about

the dangers of their journey. Everyone forgot

how tired and fed up with travelling they were.

There were shouts of laughter as they mucked

around like a group of school kids. Then they

waded out and knelt along the edges of the

clear clean water washing out shirts and

socks. They spread them in the sun to dry.

Rosie and Flick picked fruit from some

nearby bushes. Abby and Jay refilled water

bottles from a spring. Ella, Binny and Lewis

built a camp fire and cooked up more soup for

supper. Then everyone gathered round to eat.
