breeze had got up and was fanning the camp

            fire. It spat and crackled in the darkness.

               The light from the flames together with the

            light of a full moon helped as Jay and Abby

            stepped lightly and quietly away from the

            sleeping Pioneers. They’d left their rucksacks

            and sleeping blankets behind. If they were

            going back to the real world it didn’t seem

            right to take the Pioneers’ things with them –

            all except for one weapon which Jay would

            keep until the last moment.

               “Just in case!” he’d whispered.

               Soon they were out of sight and had

            disturbed no one. It would have felt better to

            have been able to say goodbye, but they

            couldn’t explain about the real world and

            about needing to get back. They would have to

            leave unseen and alone at some point.
