Chapter Nine

               It was Jay who heard it first. It was the

            excited cry of a child who had just discovered

            something… exciting. Not, thank goodness,

            the sound of someone who was being

            captured by the Groundlings.

               “She’s there!” he said, pointing up into the

            branches of a tall tree. “She’s not lost. Flick’s

            there. Up there, in that tree.”

               Rosie stopped screeching and gazed at the

            tree. Then her legs gave way as she collapsed

            in utter relief. Binny rushed towards her.

               “It’s your fault!” he hissed at Jay. “Well, you

            were standing next to Flick weren’t you? You

            must have seen her wander off. Why didn’t

            you stop her?”

               “I saw nothing...” Jay tried to defend

            himself.
