they had a chance. All this noise would attract
Groundlings from miles around. They had to
stop it.
“Stop it!” Jay tried yelling, but no one took
any notice. Jay put his hands over his ears to
keep out the din.
Suddenly Ella’s voice rose above the
racket. This time the Pioneers took notice.
“Quiet!” Ella stormed at them. “We are not
going to behave like this.”
They fell as silent and still as a group of told
off school kids. For a moment they stood red-
faced, guilty. Binny and Rosie murmured
“sorry” and “didn’t mean it” and Ella had
everyone under control again.
“We’ll follow The Guide’s instructions and
go that way,” she waved her hand at the forest
