Chapter One
IT was impossible. Alfie couldn’t believe it. He sat up in bed and
looked at his alarm clock.
“Half-past seven. That’s amazing!”
Alfie threw back the covers and jumped out of bed. He thumped
the switch on the top of his radio alarm clock. Never in his whole life
had Alfie managed to wake up on a school day before his alarm
went off.
It wasn’t that Alfie stayed up late playing computer games.
Certainly not. It wasn’t that he spent hours every night doing his
homework. Definitely not. No. The reason why Alfie usually
overslept was THE SNORING.
Alfie’s dad, super chef, cookery expert, inventor of all mouth-
watering delights and boss of The Cuckoo Lane Restaurant, was
also the world’s loudest snorer. He kept everyone awake: Alfie’s
mum, his older sister Lily and Grandad. Alfie was usually woken up
several times each night by his Dad’s snortling snoring noises. But
last night, Alfie’s mum had had a brilliant idea. She had given him
