...shot across the room and wopped Dad in the face as he entered
the kitchen.
“I just don’t understand what’s gone wrong with that machine,”
said Grandad. “It was working perfectly last week. They’re supposed
to land on the plates.”
“I’ll help you fix it,” said Alfie, hoping this might get him entry to
the workshop and a look at Grandad’s new invention.
“I’ll tell you what does need fixing,” said Lily, speed ironing her
jeans, “and that’s your hair, Dad.”
It was true. Ever since Dad had accidentally washed his hair in
Mum’s hair dye instead of shampoo a week ago he had been walking
around with green hair.
“Funny how it went green when it said brown on the bottle,” she
frowned.
“Very odd indeed,” said Dad, who seemed strangely unbothered
by the accident. “But at least now your mother and I are a matching
pair.”
