“It’s something else,” said Lily. “I mean, I can see something
sticking out of his ears and it’s not wax.”
Grandad and Lily both peered at Alfie’s ears. Grandad laughed.
You’re right,” he said. “Alfie’s left some earplugs in.”
“What?” said Alfie.
“There are earplugs in your ears,” said Lily. “Take them out!”
“What?” said Alfie.
Lily pointed at her ears.
EARPLUGS!”she shouted.
“You’ve got ear plugs?” said Alfie.
“NO! You have! TAKE THEM OUT!”
Take them out? Ear plugs?
“Oh!” Alfie remembered. He’d forgotten to remove them! He
pulled them out quickly. Sound flooded his head.
Grandad howled with laughter and Alfie started to laugh too.
“I put them in last night,” he explained. “Dad’s snoring was
terrible.”
Lily went back to her ironing.
“Maybe you could invent something to stop him snoring,
Grandad,” she said.
