This, unfortunately, was also true. Alfie cringed at the thought of
his parents turning up at Parents’ Evening or Sports Day with their
matching green hair. Thank goodness there wasn’t anything on for
parents to turn up to just now. Then he had a horrible thought.
“The restaurant inspectors are coming in two days!” he said. “I
don’t suppose, I mean, I don’t suppose it will have washed out by
then?”
“Well, I hope not,” said Dad. He was taking milk and eggs and
bacon out of the fridge. “We’ll have to get another bottle of it.”
In no time at all Dad had cooked one of his best omelettes for
everyone. With a super chef in the house who needed an Automatic
Breakfast Server? Alfie thought, tucking in.
Ten minutes later Dad and Lily went down to the restaurant. It
might be only quarter past eight but there were tables to be set,
menus to be sorted, tablecloths to be sent to the launderette and
vegetables to be put away when Mum got back with them.
Alfie went off to get dressed. A few minutes later he was back in
the kitchen. Hair tousled, shirt hanging out and tie askew he was
ready for school.
