“Now, this shouldn’t be out during lesson time, Alfie,” she smiled.
“You can’t concentrate on what you are supposed to be doing if
you’re drawing pictures.”
She flipped over a few pages of Alfie’s sketch pad. She knew Alfie
loved drawing. Most of the pictures were funny - dancing bananas, a
cow in a hot air balloon, a snail race. She stared at a picture of a
fuzzy haired character with glasses and a long nose. It looked
strangely familiar. Alfie had done pictures of all his teachers. This
one of the Headteacher was one of his favourites.
Miss May smiled again.
“Mmm! Very good!” she said. “But not in spelling test time
please.”
Alfie nodded.
“Okay. Sorry,” he said. He picked up the sketch book before she
found the picture of herself. “Can I go now?”
“Just one more thing,” said Miss May.
She held out a white envelope. Alfie’s heart sank. It wasn’t a letter
asking his parents to a Parents’ Evening, was it?
“They’re too busy at the moment,” he blurted out. “They’ve got
Inspectors coming and loads to do and green hair and stuff.”
