Poppy’s dad, that’s Mr George Brown,

was in bed trying to get some sleep. It

might be daytime, but Mr Brown had to

sleep during the daytime. This was because

his job was at night. Mr Brown had just

started a new job reading the night-time

news on the local radio. This meant he had

to stay awake all night.

Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever tried

staying awake all night. Let me give you a

word of advice. Should you, say in ten

years’ time, get offered a job that you have

to do at night-time, then you’ll need to go to

sleep during the day. This isn’t easy

because nearly everyone else is awake

during the daytime – making a noise. And
