thing the Chicken Street Gang had in their

Den – well, there was an old sofa to sit on.

Luke plopped himself down on it.

“How long do you think people can go

without sleep?” he asked.

Poppy thought for a moment.

“A few days,” she said. “I looked it up on

the internet. First you start yawning all the

time. Then you get headaches. Then you

get grouchy. After that you start imagining

things and going insane.”

“That’s terrible,” said Billie, tossing the

ping pong ball up to the garage ceiling and

catching it in one hand. “What stage has

your dad got to?”
