“The Guide is the creator of everything in

this world,” she said. “The Guide started life

and keeps it all going. If you realise it’s there

then you’ll know it can help you work out what

to do. It uses the image on the Stone to speak

to us.”

Jay wasn’t sure what to say. He wanted to

ask what Binny’s job was. Maybe he would

find out once he got back to the real world. He

rubbed his eyes with his hands and yawned.

Ella smiled.

“Go and get some rest like everyone else.

We’re all exhausted. It’s tough being the

leader of a load of exhausted people.”

“They don’t always listen to you,” Jay said.

“No,” said Ella, “I don’t feel like much of a

leader. I’m sure anyone else would have been
