tasted okay and Jay felt full after just one
mugful and two pieces of fruit. Jay forgot
about the Food Thing. There were no plates
for arranging food on anyway. Afterwards
each Pioneer cleaned their own bowl and
spoon, mostly with dry leaves and a small
amount of water.
“We can’t waste water!” Ella laughed at
Jay’s shocked face. “You can help me pack
everything away if you want.”
“Okay,” Jay said. He helped Ella collect up
the wiped mugs and placed them all back into
a large rucksack.
“Have you ever run out of food?” he asked.
Ella raised an eyebrow.
“Of course not. We packed plenty. We knew
it would be a long journey. Every day we’ve
