like vegetables into it. Vegetable soup for

supper then.

Binny glanced across at Jay. He often

seemed to check on him in this way. It was

almost as if he didn’t trust him and needed to

know what he was up to all the time. It was

horrible. None of the other Pioneers treated

him like that. Why didn’t Binny like him?

Jay decided to move his blanket to the

opposite side of the path away from Binny’s.

He had already got the blame for Flick

wandering off to climb the tree. He didn’t want

Binny to think anything else that might go

wrong was his fault. Besides, if he was going

to sneak off later to find the way out he didn’t

want Binny seeing him.

Half an hour later everyone gathered round

for the supper of vegetable soup and fruit. It
