asked. He had always wondered that. “Who

decided?”

“The Guide, of course!” Ella raised her

eyebrows in surprise. “The Guide gave each

of us a task before we set off. Because we’re

all different we’ve all got different ones. Didn’t

you have a task?”

“I...I don’t think so,” said Jay weakly.

Ella looked puzzled a moment. Then she

shrugged.

“Well, I suppose you are still young.”

“What do you think The Guide is?” asked

Jay.

Ella smiled.
